French President Emmanuel Macron said that if Russia does not agree to a 30-day truce in Ukraine, the European Union, in agreement with the US, may impose new sanctions against it. He announced this in an interview with TF1 TV channel.
Macron emphasized the need for a truce, noting that this could initiate "negotiations that will help resolve regional issues."
At the same time, he says that "even the Ukrainians themselves understand that it is impossible to reclaim all the territories lost since 2014."
According to the French president, after the signing of the peace agreement, the issue of deploying UN peacekeeping forces or security missions may be raised. Their task should be to "locate in areas far from the front line and restrain Russia from continuing the conflict."
Macron also emphasized that a "strong Ukrainian army" should be the main security guarantee.
