Today, on May 17th, in our capital and certain areas of our country, an increase in wind speed and the phenomenon of dust and sand storms are being observed.
So, what medical advice should we follow under such uncomfortable weather conditions?
— In this situation, it is necessary to avoid being outdoors as much as possible, — says the director of the Republic Specialized Scientific Practical Medical Center of Allergology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Ilmira Razikova. — Specifically, people with bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, cough associated with throat itchiness, bronchitis, bronchial hyperreactivity, and other chronic respiratory diseases should avoid going outside.
Because the air during dust storms contains very high concentrations of plant pollen, fungal spores. Therefore, people with conditions should consult with their doctor and increase the doses of their anti-allergy medications.
Wiping premises or facilities with a damp cloth, placing water-filled containers inside or around the house or building helps to reduce the level of dust. Moreover, in such situations, hanging wet towels, air conditioners, and air purification systems also help.
Keeping windows closed, drinking more water, taking frequent showers ease breathing. Rinsing the mouth and nasal cavities with saline solution also yields great benefits.
When outdoors, wearing a medical mask and changing it frequently is a must. Young children, pregnant women, and elderly individuals are also advised to be cautious in such conditions.
If symptoms like shortness of breath, nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, itching and redness in the eyes and throat, coughing occur due to the dust in the external environment, contact your family doctor.
We remind our citizens that in such weather conditions, if needed, they can call the "103" service and receive quality medical assistance 24/7.
Moreover, the Republic Emergency Medical Service Scientific Center and its 13 branches in the regions as well as district and city departments are fully supplied with the necessary medications.
