Yesterday evening, May 18, the leaders of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy held talks with US President Donald Trump on Ukraine.

According to the official representative of the German government, Stefan Cornelius, the exchange of views on this issue will continue after the conversation between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump and Putin will talk today, May 19.

According to the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's press service, the conversation discussed the war in Ukraine and the severe consequences this war has for both sides. The possibility of applying new sanctions against Russia is also being considered if it does not take a ceasefire and peace negotiations seriously.

French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Tomorrow, President Putin must show that he wants peace. He must agree to the 30-day unconditional non-fire regime proposed by US President Trump and supported by Ukraine and Europe."

Trump previously stated that he intends to call Putin on May 19th and then communicate with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and NATO members. According to him, the main topic will be "stopping the bloody war, which is causing the deaths of an average of more than 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers every week, and restoring trade relations."
