Lars Klingbeil called on G7 countries to put an end to the customs war and economic uncertainty, and to provide stronger support to Ukraine. He made this statement in an interview with journalists before departing for Canada.

“Tariffs and uncertainty are putting pressure on our economy. This threatens the security of millions of jobs,” Klingbeil told the Reuters news agency.

He will participate in the upcoming G7 finance ministers’ meeting in Canada. Ukraine’s Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko will also attend the meeting. Klingbeil emphasized the need for G7 countries to present a united and firm position in support of Ukraine during the forum.

“We must send a clear signal within the G7 that we are committed to achieving a just and lasting peace. Ukraine is relying on our support,” the German finance minister added.

The meeting, which will take place from May 20 to 22, will discuss not only assistance during the ongoing war but also plans for post-war reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure. According to Klingbeil, the agenda will also include the potential involvement of private investments for this purpose.
