US President Donald Trump has signed a new order prohibiting entry into US territory to citizens of 12 countries fully, and of 7 countries in a limited manner, with the aim of ensuring national security. This was reported by the “DW” publication.
A full entry ban has been imposed on citizens of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
A partial ban applies to the following countries:
Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
Citizens of these countries are now prohibited from entering the US on tourist or student visas. However, work visas or visas for the purpose of reuniting with relatives who are US citizens will remain in effect.
These measures had been implemented during Trump's presidency before. However, this time the list of banned did not include Syria and North Korea.
According to President Trump, this decision was made following a recent attack in the city of Boulder, state of Colorado. It was discovered that a 45-year-old Egyptian citizen, who is living illegally in the US and is married, threw an incendiary device at a gathering of Jewish activists shouting “Freedom for Palestine!”.
“In the XXI century, we witnessed terrorist attacks carried out by foreigners who overstayed their visas or came from dangerous regions. I will not allow what happened in Europe to be repeated in America,” — says the US President.
He also announced that new countries may be added to this list.
