From May 8, 2025, based on the order of the German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, it became possible to directly reject the asylum applications of migrants at the country's borders. Since then to this day, 3,278 migrants have been deprived of the right to enter Germany.
This order also considers exceptions. Specifically, rules do not apply to representatives of "vulnerable groups," including pregnant women and minors. On this basis, the asylum applications of 46 people have been reviewed.
The numbers show that the amount of people entering Germany illegally is also increasing. If 5,079 people entered the country illegally in April, this figure increased by 10 percent to 5,571 in May.
This is the highest figure recorded since the beginning of 2025. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 25,298 individuals have entered Germany illegally.
According to Alexander Dobrindt's promise, the number of such rejections will gradually increase. Border controls have been intensified — the number of Federal Police officers has been increased from 11,000 to 14,000, and the number of control points has also been expanded.
These changes indicate that immigration policy in Germany is becoming more strict — especially against the backdrop of security and order issues. However, how these steps will affect the principles of humanity remains to be seen.
