Reports have spread on social networks about the commencement of the demolition of 110,000 houses in Tashkent. The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services stated that these reports are unfounded.
“These reports do not correspond to reality,” says the Ministry's refutation.
It is noted that currently, the country is conducting studies and evaluations of the seismic condition of the multistoried housing fund. These measures are being carried out in a preventive manner to ensure the safety of the population.
At present, a case of non-compliance with seismic requirements has been identified in one object that does not have any official documents. Appropriate measures have been taken in accordance with the established procedure to ensure the safety of citizens regarding this object.
“Currently, there are no decisions or plans regarding the mass demolition of houses,” the report states.
The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services has asked citizens not to believe in unfounded reports spreading through unreliable sources and to rely on official information. It also reminded that the law prescribes liability for spreading false information.
According to the National Statistics Committee, as of January 1, 2025, the number of multi-apartment buildings reached 46,476. Of these, buildings of five stories or more accounted for 12,604 units, or 27.1 percent of the total.
By a presidential decree, from June 1, 2024, the construction of medical facilities of more than 5 stories and buildings of more than 9 stories in seismic activity zones of 8 or higher on the MSK-64 scale is planned to be equipped with active seismic protection systems, including seismic isolators and dampers.
The territory of Tashkent city is located in a zone with high seismic potential, where there is a risk of earthquakes with a magnitude of M 6.5 and higher occurring.
