The CEO of France's major energy company “TotalEnergies”, Patrick Pouyanné, mentioned that Europe could easily replace the liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplied from Russia with other sources. This was reported by the “DW” publication.

“We have lost Russia as a reliable supplier. Energy has turned into a weapon of war for Russia. Therefore, finding alternative routes has become a strategic task for Europe,” Pouyanné said.

According to him, the LNG market will strengthen from the year 2027 onwards. This will be due to the new capacities being built in Qatar and the USA.

Earlier, the European Commission had announced a plan to completely abandon Russian gas starting from January 1, 2028.

“This is not a sanction against Ukraine and Russian aggression. It is a strict measure imposed because Russia has used energy as a weapon and blackmailed European countries. This ban will remain in effect,” said the European Commission's spokesperson for energy matters, Dan Jørgensen.
