European Commission official Guillaume Mercier announced readiness for negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union.
According to him, official Kyiv has met all the necessary requirements "under the most difficult conditions".
"Now it's Hungary's turn. It must decide its own course of action," says Mercier.
Previously, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, based on the results of a "referendum" held in his country, declared opposition to the Ukrainian membership issue.
Official Brussels, however, considers this vote to be legally non-binding.
The European Commission is asking Budapest to substantiate its opposing views.
