Germany's Foreign Ministry has demanded an explanation from Israel regarding the attack that resulted in the death of Al Jazeera journalist Anas Jamal al-Sharif and four other media workers in the Gaza Strip.
Berlin emphasized that Israel must not only clarify the reasons behind this attack but also explain how the deceased journalist was deprived of his status under international protection.
According to official data, more than 200 journalists have lost their lives as a result of Israeli military operations since the start of the war. Germany describes this number as "unacceptably high." Israel, in turn, claims that al-Sharif was a high-ranking member of Hamas and that his journalistic activities served as a cover.
