The number of fatalities in the explosion incident that occurred on August 15 at the "Elastik" plant in Rostov region has reached 14. Another 149 people sustained injuries of varying severity.
The incident took place in the plant's gunpowder workshop. Initially, local authorities referred to the event as a "fire in the workshop," but it was later stated that the explosion occurred due to violations of safety regulations.
The enterprise is registered in the state registry as a manufacturer of weapons and ammunition. August 18 was declared a day of mourning in Ryazan region.
