According to the State Statistics Committee, while 68 new schools were put into operation across the republic in the first half of 2025, not a single one of them is located in Tashkent city.

Furthermore, in the 2024/2025 academic year, 738 thousand children will enter the first grade. Considering that 455.2 thousand students are graduating from school, the total number of students is expected to increase by approximately 283 thousand. This, first and foremost, indicates that the demand for school places will increase even more in large cities, including Tashkent.

According to official data, two years ago, 75.5 percent of schools operated in 2 or 3 shifts. However, the Ministry of Schools has not announced updated data on school capacity or shifts.

At the same time, over the past year, the population of Tashkent has increased by another 70 thousand people. But the school infrastructure is developing at a slow pace relative to the population growth.

The approach of officials that "private schools will solve this problem" is not yielding sufficient results in practice.
