The city of Kyiv, Ukraine, was subjected to a large-scale air attack by Russia on the morning of August 28. According to officially confirmed information, at least 12 people were killed, including three children aged 2, 14, and 17. Another 45 people received bodily injuries.
Zelenskyy assessed this attack as "Russia once again choosing ballistic missiles instead of negotiations" and called on the international community to respond.
"This attack is an open response to those around the world who are calling for peace and diplomacy. Russia remains faithful not to the negotiating table, but to war," Zelenskyy wrote on his social media page.
As a result of the attack, a section of a five-story building in the eastern district of Kyiv collapsed. Three people were rescued alive from the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing.
In August, bombings had temporarily ceased despite negotiations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, last night's attack shows that Russia's position has not changed.
Zelenskyy also asked China to state a clear position, as China had previously opposed the escalation of the war. Meanwhile, Putin is expected to attend a military parade in Beijing next week with Xi Jinping.
