Protests continuing across the country are demanding early elections.
During a peaceful march held on September 1 in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, participants commemorated the names of the 16 people who died as a result of a roof collapse at the Novi Sad railway station in November 2024.
This march was held as a protest against corruption, negligence, and government policies in the country. Similar actions also took place in cities such as Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Aleksinac.
The demonstrators are demanding the removal from power of the Serbian Progressive Party, led by President Aleksandar Vučić, and the holding of early parliamentary elections.
Protest demonstrations in Serbia have been ongoing for several months. In some instances, clashes between protesters and the police have also been reported.
Amid waves of protests in January, the country's Prime Minister and former mayor of Novi Sad, Miloš Vučević, resigned.
