In Namangan city, the mayor and a director of a small business enterprise officially formalized the right to build a multi-story apartment building on a 35-hundred-square-meter land plot and demanded a $60,000 bribe from a citizen in exchange for financial assistance.
During a rapid operation, the director of the enterprise was caught red-handed with evidence while receiving this money.
The operation was then continued, and the city's own mayor was caught receiving his share of the bribe through the head of his office.
The mayor was stripped of his parliamentary immunity, a criminal case was initiated against him under Part 3, paragraph "a" of Article 210 of the Criminal Code, and a custodial detention measure was applied.
In Zangiata district, the chief specialist of the agriculture department demanded a $40,000 bribe in exchange for officially formalizing an 8-hundred-square-meter plot of land from the state reserve for a citizen.
He was caught by officers of the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes while receiving $20,000.
Criminal cases have also been opened against him under similar articles — Part 4, paragraph "a" of Article 168 and Part 3, paragraph "a" of Articles 28 and 211; he is currently also under arrest.
According to officials, other illegal activities are also being investigated during the inquiry.
