According to reports, while saving the penalty kick, the ball forcefully hit the goalkeeper in the chest. He managed to make the save and began to celebrate, but then lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.
The medical personnel who were promptly called transported the athlete by ambulance to a hospital in the city of San Miguel. There, doctors tried to save his life for almost an hour. Unfortunately, all efforts were unsuccessful and he passed away.
Official mourning has been declared in the municipality of Augusto, where the tragedy occurred.
