Citizens "slept" employees of law enforcement agencies for 170 thousand dollars.

The citizen trusted them and sold his house and car. He lost his savings and even went into debt.

According to a report by the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) seen here, a citizen M.P. appealed to the Ombudsman about being deprived of a large sum of money due to his carelessness and naivety.

In his appeal, M.P. stated that in December 2024, under the influence of individuals who introduced themselves as employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, and the Central Bank, he transferred 170,000 US dollars via cryptocurrency. For this purpose, he sold his car and house, lost his savings, and even went into debt.

The citizen officially appealed to the Cybersecurity Center in December 2024, a criminal case was initiated, and he was recognized as a victim.

The Ombudsman appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to clarify the circumstances indicated in the complaint.

As a result of a joint review of the appeal, the Cybersecurity Department recovered 115 thousand US dollars (1 billion 434 million 625 thousand soum) from Cryptoshop in favor of citizen M.P.

The Ombudsman calls on citizens to pay serious attention to the following:

- Do not trust individuals who introduce themselves as employees of law enforcement agencies or banks but call from personal numbers and request payments or information;

- Do not disclose personal information such as passport or ID card details, plastic card numbers, PIN codes, or SMS codes to anyone over the phone;

- If unfamiliar persons urge you to make a payment via cryptocurrency, stop this situation immediately and contact law enforcement agencies;

- State bodies, institutions, and organizations carry out their activities only through official channels. In suspicious situations, obtain confirmation through the trusted numbers of the relevant institution.

The report states that the Ombudsman primarily calls on citizens to be legally aware and vigilant.
