On November 12, Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Khalid al-Anani, who was elected to the position of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The Presidential Press Service reported on this.

The outcomes of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand and the prospects for further developing cooperation with this influential UN institution were discussed.

At the beginning of the conversation, the head of state congratulated Khalid al-Anani on his election to the high position and wished him success in his future activities.

In turn, the newly elected Director-General expressed his gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for the support of the organization's main initiatives and their high-level organization.

It was confirmed that the parties are firmly committed to further intensifying cooperation, including the desire to expand the organization's project activities in the country.

It was emphasized that UNESCO is ready to jointly implement the strategic initiatives put forward by the President of Uzbekistan at the opening ceremony of the General Conference.

At the UNESCO conference in Samarkand, Egypt's Khalid al-Anani was elected as the new Director-General for a four-year term. He becomes the twelfth head of the organization and will take up the post on November 15, replacing Audrey Azoulay.
