According to information from the Russian Ministry of Health, surgeons removed a parasitic worm called dirofilaria from under a woman's eye.

According to experts, this type of parasite is transmitted to humans through mosquitoes and usually comes from infected animals.

"Such cases are recorded 3-4 times a year. The parasite does not multiply in the human body and is not dangerous for others," the statement says.

Nevertheless, it was emphasized that dirofilaria can grow up to 15-18 centimeters when mature.
