During the meeting held in Berlin, negotiations lasting more than 5 hours took place between American and Ukrainian delegations on the issue of preventing a possible ceasefire in Ukraine. This was written on December 14 by US President Donald Trump's special representative, Stephen Wietkoff, on the X social network.
It is reported that the meeting was attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US Special Representative Stephen Wietkoff, and Trump's advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner. The parties held in-depth discussions on a 20-point peace plan, economic issues, and a number of other topics.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also participated at the beginning of the meeting, later leaving the negotiations, leaving his representative behind. Later, Merz expressed on the X social network his desire to achieve a stable peace in Ukraine, noting that there were complex issues ahead.
According to information, consultations will continue on December 15. It is expected that European state leaders, as well as leaders of the European Union and NATO, will participate.
Earlier, Reuters agency reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a conversation with journalists, stated he was ready for certain compromises in peace negotiations. In particular, Kyiv is considering the possibility of accepting legally binding security guarantees from the US and European states instead of NATO membership.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy assessed freezing combat actions along the current front line as a fair option. Russia, on the other hand, has previously demanded several times that Ukrainian troops withdraw from certain territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
