Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó announced that the country plans to purchase a total of 2 billion cubic meters of LNG over the next five years. This step will allow Hungary to diversify its external energy sources and purchase gas from various sellers at a favorable price.
Currently, Hungary receives approximately 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia via the "TurkStream" pipeline. At the same time, the US has allowed Hungary to act independently regarding sanctions restrictions on purchasing Russian oil and gas.
The European Union, within the framework of the REPowerEU plan, intends to gradually stop importing gas from Russia by 2027.
