On December 17, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Woo Won-shik, who arrived in our country to participate in the third meeting of the heads of parliaments of the Republic of Korea and Central Asian states.
At the beginning of the meeting, the high-ranking guest conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes of the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, to the leader of our country.
Issues of further developing a special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, including through inter-parliamentary cooperation, were discussed.
It was noted with satisfaction that political and inter-parliamentary relations are gaining momentum. The volume of trade turnover is increasing, as is the number of investments from Korea, primarily aimed at modernizing the economy and developing high-tech industrial sectors.
Humanitarian and educational exchanges are expanding. Four branches of leading Korean universities, as well as professional education centers in the regions of our country, are successfully operating in Uzbekistan.
Cooperation projects in infrastructure development, transport and logistics, processing of rare metals and critical raw materials, as well as the digitalization of legislative activity and the introduction of advanced solutions in governance were supported.
The importance of developing an inter-parliamentary cooperation program and activating the work of "friendship groups" in the parliaments was emphasized.
The necessity of thoroughly preparing the agenda for upcoming high-level events, including within the framework of the "Central Asia – Republic of Korea" summit, was noted.
