The Norwegian government is preparing a plan to evacuate civilians in the event of a possible attack by Russia. This was announced by the head of the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection, Elisabeth Aarsæther.
According to her, the plan is being developed in cooperation with the Armed Forces and the police, and first of all, areas close to Russia and locations with military installations are being assessed for their level of risk. In particular, the issue of evacuation in the northern Finnmark county of the country has been discussed.
Norway is taking into account Russia's experience in Ukraine, considering the possibility that energy infrastructure and civilian objects could come under likely attack. Also, which municipalities could potentially receive evacuated populations is being determined.
It is reported that the development and updating of evacuation plans will be one of the priority tasks of the Norwegian government in 2026.
