Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave a number of instructions on further expanding mass sports, holding the Presidential Olympiad twice a year, and strengthening the scientific approach.
On January 20, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation dedicated to the work carried out in the sports sector in 2025, the results achieved in major international competitions, and the priority tasks planned for 2026.
It was noted that the population's coverage by mass sports has reached 15 million people, and the number of people regularly involved in sports has increased by almost 1.5 times in recent years. Last year, Uzbek youth achieved high results in a number of international competitions, and the national football team secured a World Cup ticket for the first time.
At the same time, it was emphasized that in some sports, the existing infrastructure and results commensurate with potential have not yet been fully achieved. It was pointed out that it is necessary to bring the number of people involved in mass sports to 17 million in the near future.
The task was set to develop an open and transparent selection system through the Presidential Olympiad, hold competitions twice a year, and gradually increase the number of sports to 20.
Special attention was also paid to forming a unified sports cluster based on the Olympic Town and the National Football Center, developing sports science, and attracting the private sector and investors.
The Head of State gave instructions to those responsible regarding the high-level organization of international sports events planned to be held in Tashkent this year and the full implementation of the tasks set for the popularization of sports.
