TASS reported this based on the materials of a government commission meeting.
It is reported that the relevant norm will be introduced into the law "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation." If a previous conviction is subsequently discovered, the decision to grant citizenship or residence documents may be annulled. This procedure does not apply to persons who received documents before the law comes into force.
Also, according to the new requirement, foreigners applying to the Ministry of Internal Affairs will have to submit a certificate of non-conviction. It must be officially issued no earlier than three months before the application is submitted. Persons under 14 years of age are exempt from this requirement, while a two-year transition period is being established for Ukrainian citizens.
