The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is not planning to discuss or vote on the issue of lifting the sanctions imposed against Russia in the near future. This was reported based on sources from "The Times" publication.
According to sources, considering that the political and sporting conditions have not changed, FIFA's leadership does not consider it appropriate to put this issue on the agenda. Therefore, there are no official initiatives to review the restrictions against Russia.
Earlier, FIFA President Gianni Infantino's statement about the opportunity for Russian clubs to return to European cups had caused significant public resonance.
For reference, Russian national teams and clubs have been suspended from all international competitions since February 28, 2022. The decision was made against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and is considered indefinite.
Although this issue has been raised several times within UEFA as well, a unified position has not been formed. According to experts, due to geopolitical factors, Russia's full return to international football is currently assessed as a low-probability scenario.
