In recent days, record precipitation has been observed in a number of regions of China. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, officials have temporarily suspended classes in schools and the operations of some institutions. In addition, work has begun to allocate additional funds to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.
“Xinhua” news agency reported that five people died in Hunan province, and 11 are missing. In just one county alone, heavy rains and floods have affected more than 61,500 residents.
In southern Guangxi province, the number of victims has reached 10. According to Chinese media, a truck attempted to cross a river that had overflowed its banks, and the strong current swept the vehicle away.
In Guizhou province, four people have died, and search and rescue operations are still ongoing. In Hubei province, floods have caused the deaths of three people, and another four are considered missing.
As a result of the floods, a number of structures have been destroyed, and transport and communication have been cut off in some populated areas.
The Chinese government has allocated 120 million yuan to provide assistance to the affected regions. In addition, an additional 30 million yuan has been directed to Guizhou province, where serious damage was observed.
Earlier, it was reported that heavy rains in southern and central regions of China had caused widespread floods and landslides, killing at least 10 people.
