According to a statement by the IDF, the operation was carried out based on "months of intelligence surveillance and operational coordination." The attack took place in Gaza City.

It was reported that Muhammad Odeh previously headed the intelligence directorate of Hamas. He assumed this position after the death of Izz ad-Din al-Haddad, the former leader of the organization's military wing, earlier this month.

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office referred to Odeh as "one of the architects" of the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023.

"As part of the operation to eliminate Odeh, the IDF struck terrorist infrastructure targets in Gaza City. These targets were used by Odeh and Hamas operatives," the Israeli army statement said.
