According to reports, the deceased baby's name was Sam Fahd Abu Haykal, and the incident occurred in the Tel Rumeida area south of Hebron. The baby's parents were also injured.

In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces said that soldiers perceived a vehicle moving quickly toward them as a threat and therefore fired several shots at the car.

According to the military, three Palestinians were injured as a result of the incident and were taken for medical treatment. An investigation into the incident has been launched, and "regret for the harm caused to innocent people" was expressed.

In an interview with Reuters, the baby's grandfather said the family stopped the car upon seeing Israeli military vehicles and soldiers on the road. According to him, they initially thought the shots were warning shots, but then live fire was used.

He stated that a bullet hit the baby's face and caused head injuries, and the mother's face was also injured. The father's finger was wounded, and the mother is receiving treatment at a hospital.

According to data, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023. Since then, over 70,600 people have been killed in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks.
