The number of students studying at higher education institutions in Uzbekistan has reached 1 million 535 thousand. This was reported by the National Statistics Committee.
According to the report, at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, the number of students studying at higher education organizations in the republic amounted to 1 million 535 thousand. This figure is 102.2 thousand, or 7.1 percent, higher compared to the 2024/2025 academic year.
According to statistics, 782.9 thousand of the students are women, and 752.1 thousand are men. Thus, a higher proportion of women is observed among those studying in higher education.
In recent years, the number of students in the country has been steadily growing. In particular, in the 2021/2022 academic year, 808.4 thousand students studied at higher education institutions, while in the 2022/2023 academic year this figure reached 1 million 42.1 thousand. In the 2023/2024 academic year, the number of students was 1 million 314.5 thousand, and in the 2024/2025 academic year it reached 1 million 432.8 thousand.
At the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, this figure exceeded the 1.5 million mark for the first time.
Earlier, the National Statistics Committee also published data on the number of higher education organizations operating in the country.
