Six days of mourning events will be held in Iran and Iraq in connection with the farewell to the late Supreme Leader of the country, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This was reported by Iran's Tasnim news agency.
It is reported that more than 30 state officials and over 90 religious figures from various countries are expected to participate in the farewell ceremonies. This was announced by Iran's Deputy Interior Minister and head of the headquarters for organizing the mourning events, Ali Akbar Purjamshidiyon, at a press conference held in Tehran.
The official representative of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismail Baghai, also confirmed that large-scale mourning events will be organized in connection with the death of the Supreme Leader, and that officials from regional states and other countries are ready to participate in them.
According to a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, on July 3, a delegation led by the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Nuriddin Ismoilov, will visit Iran and participate in the mourning ceremonies.
According to the official program, the mourning events will begin on July 4 at the "Musalla" complex in Tehran. From that day, the complex will be opened for public farewell. On July 5, a funeral prayer is planned to be held there, followed by a mass mourning procession through the capital.
The ceremonies will also take place in the Iranian cities of Qom and Mashhad, as well as in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala, considered sacred to Shia Muslims. The final ceremony for the burial of Ali Khamenei's body is set to take place on July 9 in the city of Mashhad.
According to Ali Akbar Purjamshidiyon, a single national headquarters has been established in Iran to coordinate the preparatory work. The Iraqi side has also set up a separate center to coordinate the mourning events and the procedures for receiving the body.
