Employees of the State Security Service's department for the Jizzakh region, in cooperation with the regional prosecutor's office, carried out operational measures that put an end to the illegal actions of two lawyers operating in the Samarkand region.
According to reports, a person engaged in legal practice in the Urgut district of the Samarkand region promised to reduce the sentence of a convict serving time in one of the penal institutions in the Jizzakh region through his acquaintances in official positions. In exchange for this, he was caught red-handed at the moment he received 15,000 US dollars from a relative of the convict.
Another incident was recorded in the Kushrabat district of the Samarkand region. A lawyer operating there participated as a defense attorney in a case being heard in the Kushrabat district criminal court. He told the defendant that he could help secure a lighter sentence through his official acquaintances and demanded 2,000 US dollars from the defendant's son for this purpose.
During the operational action, this lawyer was also apprehended at the moment he received the requested sum of money.
Currently, criminal cases have been initiated regarding both incidents, and investigative actions are ongoing.
The State Security Service has called on citizens to contact the agency's short number 1520 in case they encounter similar violations of the law. It is noted that the anonymity of the caller is guaranteed.
