A 29-year-old woman was strangled by her husband in India. According to investigative data, the man regularly insulted his wife for her excess weight and demanded money and gold from her family as dowry. This was reported by Times of India.

The incident occurred in the village of Khanasi, part of the city of Dharwad in the country. The deceased woman was Priyanka Kamalakar, who got married in 2024. Thereafter, the relationship between the spouses gradually began to deteriorate.

Relatives of the deceased say that the husband and his family members subjected Priyanka to prolonged psychological and physical pressure, demanding additional money and valuables.

During the investigation, it was established that the man constantly mocked his wife's appearance, insulting her as "too fat," and humiliated her by saying she could not bear children. This led to regular quarrels in the family.

During one of the subsequent conflicts, the man strangled the woman. Then, together with his relatives, he tried to cover up the traces of the crime.

After the deceased's family members contacted the police, a criminal case was opened regarding the murder and harassment related to dowry demands. So far, four people, including the deceased's husband, have been detained in this case.

In India, cases involving dowry demands from the bride's side are common. In May of this year, a 33-year-old model and actress was found dead in her home five months after getting married. The deceased's mother stated that a dowry dispute led to the murder. The opposing side interpreted the incident as a suicide.
