In the Toyloq district of the Samarkand region, a part of the Samarkand—Urgut railway line was damaged as a result of a sharp increase in the water level of the Zarafshan River. This was reported by the joint-stock company "Uzbekistan Railways."

According to reports, the situation that arose on July 3 was caused by heavy rainfall observed in the mountainous regions of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. As a result, the river's water flow increased from the usual 80–100 cubic meters per second to 300 cubic meters per second.

The strong current washed away the riverbanks and in some places changed the course of the riverbed. Therefore, in areas near the railway, the riverbed widened up to 30–40 meters, damaging the railway infrastructure. According to the company, such a situation has not been recorded in this area in the last 20 years.

Currently, work to eliminate the consequences of the accident continues. The riverbanks are being reinforced with boulders, and 15 pieces of specialized equipment have been involved in the work.

In addition, 30 dumpcar wagons of boulders have been delivered to the area, and another 130 dumpcar wagons have been dispatched with construction materials.

"Uzbekistan Railways" announced that work continues to fully restore railway service and ensure the safety of train traffic in the near future.
