The Ebola virus continues to spread in the Democratic Republic of Congo. So far, 1,502 cases of the disease have been confirmed in the country, of which 473 have died. Reuters reported this.

According to official data, 213 patients have recovered, while 628 people are being treated under medical supervision. Additionally, 81.8 percent of individuals who were in contact with those infected have been placed under observation.

The epidemic is mainly recorded in the eastern part of the country, in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. Experts note that there is currently no confirmed vaccine or specific treatment method against the spreading Bundibugyo strain.

It is noted that ongoing armed conflicts in the east of the country are complicating the work of medical personnel in identifying, isolating, and treating patients.

The World Health Organization has declared this Ebola epidemic a public health emergency of international concern.
