U.S. President Donald Trump personally asked FIFA President Gianni Infantino to revoke the disqualification imposed on U.S. national team striker Folarin Balogun. This was reported by the Reuters agency.
According to a source, Trump called Infantino last week and personally discussed the matter.
It was previously reported that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee had suspended Balogun's disqualification and allowed him to take the field against Belgium in the World Cup round of 16. After that, Trump wrote on his Truth Social social network, expressing gratitude to FIFA, saying the organization "made the right decision and corrected a major mistake."
Folarin Balogun received a direct red card in the World Cup round of 16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina for a rough action against his opponent Tarik Muharemovic. According to the current rules, he was supposed to miss the next match.
For reference, the World Cup round of 16 match between the USA and Belgium will take place on July 7.
