Famous New Zealand actor Sam Neill died on July 13 at the age of 78. This was announced by his family.

It is noted that the actor passed away in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by loved ones. Family members stated that his death occurred suddenly and unexpectedly.

According to reports, Sam Neill had been battling a rare form of blood cancer — angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma — in recent years. His loved ones noted that the disease was in remission and expressed gratitude to the doctors involved in his treatment.

Sam Neill (full name — Nigel John Dermot Neill) was born on September 14, 1947, in Omagh, Northern Ireland. He later moved with his family to New Zealand and studied at the University of Canterbury.

The actor became world-famous for portraying paleontologist Alan Grant in the films "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic World: Dominion." Over the course of his career, he performed roles in more than 100 films and series, including projects such as "The Hunt for Red October," "The Piano," "Event Horizon," "The Horse Whisperer," "Peaky Blinders," and "Invasion."

In April of this year, Sam Neill announced that he had overcome cancer thanks to an innovative treatment method and expressed his desire to return to the film industry. He also previously stated in an interview with The Guardian that he was not afraid of death but wished to live for at least another 10–20 years.
