The Tashkent City Court responded to reports circulating on social media and some mass media outlets that the appeal complaint of Oybek Ashurov, the defense lawyer of entrepreneur Sanjar Karimov, known as "Real Sanjik," had not been accepted by the court.
According to the court's press service, this information does not correspond to the truth. Currently, the criminal case concerning Sanjar Karimov is being considered on appeal by the judicial panel for criminal cases of the Tashkent City Court.
It is noted that lawyer Oybek Ashurov had previously stated in an interview with the media that his appeal complaint had not been accepted, resulting in the court session being postponed to another day. However, during an investigation conducted by the court, it was found that the lawyer sent his appeal against the verdict to the district court in electronic form not on May 18, as previously stated, but on June 30.
According to the court's explanation, although the deadline for filing the complaint had passed, the verdict had not yet entered into legal force. Additionally, considering that the case is being reviewed by the appellate instance based on timely filed appeals from the defendant's other defense lawyers, the motion to restore the deadline was granted.
Thus, lawyer Oybek Ashurov, like the other defense attorneys, participated in the current court session.
The press service of the Tashkent City Court, emphasizing the important role of lawyers in the administration of justice, urged them to refrain from presenting their personal legal position as a clearly proven fact through the media and misleading the public.
It was reported that the next appellate court session in the criminal case concerning Sanjar Karimov will be continued on July 20.
Let us recall that on May 8 of this year, the Mirzo Ulugbek District Court for Criminal Cases found Sanjar Karimov guilty of fraud, threats of murder or violence, and drug-related crimes. The court sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment, as well as a fine of 410 times the base calculation amount. Displeased with the verdict, Sanjar Karimov filed an appeal with a higher instance court.
