Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized the national team footballers for not returning to the country after their participation in the 2026 World Cup. This was reported by the Globo publication.
According to reports, the Brazilian national team lost to Norway 1:2 in the Round of 16 of the World Cup on July 6 of this year and bid farewell to the tournament.
According to the publication, on a special flight returning from the USA to Brazil, apart from the coaching staff and team personnel, only defender Danilo was present. The remaining footballers traveled directly from the USA to other countries for vacation.
Commenting on this situation, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva strongly criticized the players' decision.
"There was almost no one on the national team plane. What a disgrace, what a shame," said the Brazilian leader.
For reference, the Brazilian national team is a five-time World Cup winner. At the same time, the team left the tournament early for the first time in 36 years, failing to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
