A citizen of Uzbekistan held in a pre-trial detention center in Belarus gave birth. The baby was later brought to Uzbekistan and handed over to the care of close relatives. This was reported by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Oliy Majlis.
According to reports, on May 15 of this year, members of the Uzbek delegation, on the initiative of the Ombudsman, met with Uzbek citizens held in a pre-trial detention center in Minsk.
During the meeting, the pregnant woman stated that her ability to adequately care for her child was limited in the conditions of the pre-trial detention center, and she asked for practical assistance in handing the baby over to the care of close relatives in Uzbekistan after birth.
Thereupon, the request was taken under control, and after the child was born, the necessary legal and consular procedures were carried out in cooperation with the relevant state bodies, the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Belarus, and the CIS Commission on Human Rights.
As a result, all necessary documents were prepared for the baby's return to Uzbekistan. In July of this year, the baby was handed over to the care of close relatives and brought to Uzbekistan.
The Ombudsman reported that this process was carried out within the framework of cooperation to protect the rights and interests of Uzbek citizens who find themselves in various legal situations abroad.
