The Russian army launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv on the night of July 19. According to The Guardian, this is one of the largest ballistic attacks against the capital since the start of the war. Zamon.uz reported this.
It was reported that Russia launched nearly 40 Iskander-M ballistic and Zircon hypersonic missiles toward Kyiv. The attack lasted five hours. Ukrainian military stated that 18 missiles and 108 out of 125 drones were destroyed. Nevertheless, destruction occurred in a number of areas of the city.
The greatest damage was recorded in the Shevchenkivskyi district. A fire that broke out in a three-story building resulted in one person killed and seven others injured. Rescue workers are continuing search operations under the rubble.
The attack also damaged residential buildings, office buildings, and dormitories. Due to the strong blast wave, the ceiling of the vestibule of the Lukyanivska metro station collapsed, and the station was temporarily closed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the issue of defense against ballistic missiles is becoming increasingly urgent for the country. According to him, Ukraine constantly needs interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems.
At the same time, Ukraine also carried out retaliatory strikes on Russian territories. Zelenskyy stated that logistics facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions were targeted. It is reported that components under sanctions and navigation equipment used in drone production were stored there.
According to the UN, June 2026 was one of the most severe months for civilians in Ukraine since April 2022. During the month, at least 293 civilians were killed. Negotiations to stop the war are currently not yielding results, and the situation on the front line remains almost unchanged.
