British Prime Minister Keir Starmer resigned on 20 July. He submitted his resignation to King Charles III and delivered a farewell speech in front of Downing Street.
"I will soon go before His Majesty to ask him to accept my resignation and conclude my tenure as Prime Minister. My work is done," said Starmer.
He also stated that he was leaving "with a light heart, a smile, and a sense of pride in all our achievements."
Starmer had announced on 22 June that he would resign as leader of the Labour Party. Subsequently, on 17 July, Andy Burnham was elected party leader. He was appointed Prime Minister of Great Britain by King Charles III on 20 July.
56-year-old Andy Burnham served as the Mayor of Greater Manchester from May 2017 to June 2026. He succeeded Keir Starmer, who became Prime Minister after the Labour Party's landslide victory over the Conservatives in the 2024 general election.
Starmer had been the leader of the Labour Party since 2020.
