The legendary goalkeeper of the Mexican national team, Guillermo Ochoa, has decided to end his professional football career. The 41-year-old footballer announced this via his social media page.
"I never imagined how far this dream would take me. Today, I can look back with pride and express gratitude to my family, my teammates, and all the fans who supported me at every step. I take with me the love of millions of people and the belief that I gave my all for Mexico. No one can take away from us the moments we experienced together. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything," Ochoa wrote.
Guillermo Ochoa is one of three footballers in history to have been registered for six World Cups. However, he only played in four of the tournaments — in 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026. The goalkeeper was also part of the Mexican national team in the 2006 and 2010 tournaments, but did not play in any matches.
Ochoa has played a total of 12 matches in World Cups, keeping a clean sheet in 5 of them.
He has played 154 matches for the Mexican national team. Additionally, the goalkeeper won the CONCACAF Gold Cup six times and earned a bronze medal at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Ochoa, who has been playing for the Cypriot club AEL since 2025, has played for Mexico's America, Spain's Malaga and Granada, Italy's Salernitana, Portugal's AVS, France's Ajaccio, and Belgium's Standard during his career.
