Kazakhstan's new ambassador to Uzbekistan has been appointed

By decree of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Yerali Lukpanovich Tugzhanov was appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the country to Uzbekistan.

Erali Tughjanov was born on May 13, 1963 in West Kazakhstan Region. He graduated from Karaganda State University in 1988 and the Institute of State and Law of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan in 1994. Tughjanov is a Candidate of Legal Sciences and a Doctor of Political Science.

He began his career in 1980 as a worker in forestry. Later, he worked as a teacher at Karaganda State University, and as a dean and institute director at the Kazakh State Law University.

From 2001 to 2006, he was Deputy Akim of Karaganda Region, and from 2006 to 2008, Chairman of the Committee for Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Justice. From 2008 to 2017, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and Head of its Secretariat.

Tughjanov was Akim of Mangystau Region from 2017 to 2019, and Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan from 2019 to 2020. From 2020 to 2022, he served as Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and from 2022 to 2023 as Akim of Aktobe Region.

Since May 2024, he has been serving as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
