The Greek government is expected to approve a contract worth 3 billion euros for the purchase of air and missile defense systems produced in Israel. This project forms the basis of the country’s integrated defense network, called the "Achilles Shield."
It is reported that the system will include Israel's "Barak MX," "David's Sling," and "SPYDER" air defense complexes. They will be integrated into a single command network with Greece's F-35 fighter jets, modernized F-16 Viper aircraft, "Belharra" frigates, and "Patriot" systems.
The new defense network is designed to counter aircraft, ballistic missiles, drones, cruise missiles, and other modern threats.
The "Achilles Shield" program could be one of Greece's largest military modernization projects in recent decades. It is aimed at protecting military installations, populated areas, energy facilities, and other critical infrastructure on the country's mainland and islands.
