In Tajikistan, within the framework of the criminal case related to the death of 23-year-old Mehrona Noibova, the former senior investigator of the country's Prosecutor General's Office, Firuz Saidzoda, has been detained. This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Tajikistan, Habibullo Vohidzoda, at a press conference held on July 22.
It is noted that Saidzoda has been dismissed from the prosecutor's office. A criminal case has been initiated against him under Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code, namely the article "incitement to suicide." This article provides for a sentence of 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.
"He has been detained and is currently in custody," said the Prosecutor General.
At the same time, no criminal case has been initiated against another prosecutor's office employee — Davlat Arabzoda — who was with Mehrona Noibova and Firuz Saidzoda at the time of the incident. According to Vohidzoda, Arabzoda was driving them during the trip to Darvoz district.
Other details of the investigation, in particular what specific actions of Saidzoda served as the basis for holding him accountable under the article "incitement to suicide," have not been disclosed.
Mehrona Noibova was at the "Chorchaman" recreation area in the Darvoz district of Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region on April 4, 2026. Her body was found on the banks of the Panj River on April 7.
According to the official interpretation, Mehrona committed suicide. However, the relatives of the deceased expressed disbelief in this version and demanded an objective and thorough investigation of the incident.
The fact that prosecutor's office employees were with Mehrona before her death further heightened public attention to the case. For several months, her relatives have been demanding that all circumstances of the incident be clarified and that those responsible be held accountable within the framework of the law.
