US military forces have carried out another round of strikes against Iran. Thus, Washington's attacks against Tehran have continued for the 13th consecutive night. This was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
It is noted that the latest strikes, carried out on the evening of July 23, lasted more than two hours. During the attacks, Iran's military command centers, drone storage facilities, communication networks, coastal observation points, and naval military capabilities were targeted.
CENTCOM stated that these strikes are aimed at reducing the threat Iran poses to civilian vessels and commercial shipping transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump on July 23 announced the imposition of "severe military punishment" against Iran and its Houthi allies after the Houthis in Yemen targeted two Saudi-owned oil tankers in the Red Sea. Tehran, in turn, closed the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a representative of the Iranian Ministry of Health, 50 civilians have been killed and 500 wounded as a result of the latest US strikes. On the US side, the number of military personnel killed during the war has reached 18.
Trump said that for every shot Iran fires at ships in the Strait of Hormuz, the US will destroy at least one bridge or power plant on Iranian territory.
The Joint Command of the Iranian Armed Forces has stated that if such a threat is carried out, strikes will be delivered against oil, gas, electricity and other economic infrastructure facilities in the region.
In recent days, the US President has been threatening to expand the list of targets in Iran to include energy facilities and bridges.
According to the 1949 Geneva Conventions, attacking civilian objects essential to the survival of the civilian population during wartime is prohibited. American experts in international law have stated that Trump's threats to strike such objects could be assessed as a war crime from the perspective of international law.
It is worth noting that during the war, thousands of people have been killed and millions forced to leave their homes as a result of US and Israeli strikes on Iran, as well as Israeli strikes on Lebanon. The conflict is causing oil prices to rise and instability in global financial markets.
