At least 35 people were killed and 30 others injured in a collision between two buses in Syria, Al Jazeera reported.
The incident occurred on Saturday on the Deir ez-Zor—Damascus road. This highway, stretching over 400 kilometers, is one of the key routes connecting eastern Syria with the capital.
According to reports, the accident took place between the towns of Al-Sukhna and Palmyra. Syria's Ministry of Interior stated that one of the buses was carrying Internal Security Forces personnel, while the other was transporting civilians.
Ambulances were dispatched to the scene. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), several helicopters were also deployed to transport the injured to Homs Military Hospital.
Experts highlight the low safety standards of roads in Syria. Nearly 14 years of civil war have severely impacted the country's transport infrastructure.
Syria's Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, stated that more than 2,000 road traffic incidents were recorded in the country between January and September 2025. He noted that such accidents are among the leading causes of death in Syria.
