Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed temporarily halting the war in Ukraine and returning to "Istanbul Formula 2.0" negotiations during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.
The meeting took place on July 25 in the Russian city of Omsk. Tokayev emphasized the need to seek a diplomatic solution to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"Perhaps it is already necessary to freeze this conflict and return to the 'Istanbul Formula 2.0.' Then, under the guarantee of great powers, move towards peace," Tokayev said.
He noted that Kazakhstan does not intend to act as a mediator, but that the continuation of the conflict is harming the peoples of both countries.
Tokayev also reaffirmed his commitment to strategic partnership and allied relations with Russia.
It was noted that the leader of Kazakhstan visited Omsk to participate in the XXII Interregional Cooperation Forum between Kazakhstan and Russia.
