According to police, the girl was accused of illicit relations by local tribal elders and declared a "kari" (dishonored woman). Subsequently, her grandfather and uncle shot her dead on the orders of the tribal elder.
The tragedy occurred on April 10 in the village of Tando Masti in Khairpur district. The murder was filmed and circulated on social media. The victim's mother, Nabool, said she still hears her daughter's screams. Her father, Muhammad Ramzan, was working a night shift at a cement plant near Karachi at the time the incident took place.
The woman had married her cousin five years ago. However, after her husband went missing, she returned to her parents' home. Five months later, her relatives accused her of having a relationship with another man and brought her before the local jirga (tribal council). It is said that at this very gathering, the death sentence was pronounced against her.
Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the crime, and one other person is being sought. The case is expected to be sent to court.
According to human rights organizations, at least 470 women fell victim to "honor killings" in Pakistan in 2025. Activists, however, emphasize that the actual number of victims may be even higher, as traditions that provoke such crimes and, in some cases, a system that protects the perpetrators still persist.
